What the document is

The International Driving Document is a translation of the information on your national driving licence into several languages, prepared by us from the details and images you provide.

What the document is not

  • It is not an International Driving Permit under the 1926, 1949 or 1968 conventions.
  • It is not a driving licence, an identity document or proof of driving privileges.
  • It is not valid without your original, valid driving licence.

Acceptance

Authorities, police and rental companies decide whether to accept it. Some countries, including Japan, South Korea, Vietnam and mainland China, accept only official permits or local licences. Our country guides are general information, not legal advice; always check official sources before you travel.
